WIMN Action Alert: Bra Burning Edition

By Guest Blogger Suzie Siegel

On Sept. 26, The Tampa Tribune ran an article that repeated the old myth that feminists burned bras in the 1960s. A separate timeline said feminists encouraged “bra-burning rallies.”

This might be a great time to write a letter to the editor, asking for a correction: http://www.tbo.com/news/opinion/submissionform.htm

For more information on how this myth started and why it is important for the media to correct such errors, check out the Winter 2005 edition of “Clio,” the Newsletter of the History Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

[EDITORIAL NOTE FROM WIMN: Please forward copies of your letters to the Tribune to info[at]wimnonline[dot]org. For tips on writing effective letters to the editor, see WIMN’s Action Center: http://www.wimnonline.org/action/]
