Event announcement: WIMN on media representations of violence

Event Announcement from Women In Media & News:

On Friday, October 26 from 2:15 - 3:45, WIMN’s Executive Director, Jennifer L. Pozner, will be speaking about the impact of news media on the continued perpetuation of violence against women in America, at the Urban Resource Institute’s second annual anti-domestic violence conference.

“Unlocking the Secrets: Acquiring the Tools to Overcome Domestic Violence,” an all-day conference hosted at Kingsborough Community College, will be held in the Marine Academic Center (MAC Rotunda), 2001 Oriental Blvd., Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, New York 11235

Pozner’s panel, “Breaking News: Does the Media Play a Role in Helping or Hindering Domestic Violence Prevention?”, will also feature:

* Kenneth Griffin, MSW, Director - Friends of Island Academy;

* Sandra Jackson, LCSW, Dramatist, Program Director – Urban Resource Institute

* Dimension 3 - Local Rap Performing Group

* and moderator Kenneth McCrae – Urban Resource Institute

Full day admission to the conference is $25 for general public, or free to students with ID who should register in advance with Estelle Miller at emiller@kingsborough.edu
