As many readers of WIMN’s Voices know, Women In Media & News has a long collaborative history with Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture magazine. Lisa Jervis, co-founder of Bitch, is WIMN’s founding board chair. I’m Bitch’s editorial and creative director, and also among WIMN’s Voices’ original house bloggers. Over the years, we’ve reviewed books and projects by WIMN’s Voices bloggers and published media commentary and critique by many of the women you read on this blog.

I’m posting today because Bitch is in trouble. We have to raise $40,000 by October 15 in order to print the next issue — and to keep bringing you cutting-edge, snarky, insightful media analysis from writers like WIMN’s Voices bloggers Jennifer L. Pozner, Keely Savoie and Anne Elizabeth Moore — and many others whose voices are not heard outside our magazine.

In the last two years Punk Planet, Clamor, StayFree! and Lip have all folded under the pressure of an economic climate that is making it difficult for independent progressive, feminist magazines to stay afloat. Until now, Bitch has been able to fly in the face of that trend — but today, Bitch’s fate is in your hands.

Our publisher, Debbie Rassmussen, and I made the video below to explain why, and how you can help. Please watch it, forward it, post it to FaceBook and your blogs, use these banner ads, send a personal note to your friends, and do what you can to help save Bitch magazine. As an independent feminist publication, we can’t survive without your support.
