Shireen Mitchell (who blogs here), and Susan Feiner of the Women’s Media Equity Collaborative are presenting data from a survey of the women’s media sector.
102 responses from people in new media and old media
That represents 1/3 of the surveys sent out — 30% is a huge response rate. (Surveys tends to get a 10% response rate.)
Challenge was to ID women to answer survey: list of media makers, activist organizations, bloggers, more.
72% of us have collaborate with other media makers/projects
67.6% of responders ID their orgs as Feminist
41.1% of responders ID their orgs as Womanist
18.6% are youth girls (14 or younger)
67.6% are young women (15 - 29)
69.6% are women (30-49)
42.2% are older women (50-69)
20.6% are elder women (70+)
NOTE: Just realized it’s impossible to re-transcribe the survey data — I’ll see if I can post the data from the organizers. Check back here later or tomorrow and I’ll update either with the survey data itself, or with an update about when the data will become available.
Data will be used to serve the community of women’s media makers, rather than to serve the funders. Use the data to leverage the need.
Data meets funders where they’re at re. giving funders numbers and language they understand and need.
