Susy Schultz's Biography

Susy Schultz has been a Chicago journalist for nearly 20 years. The mother of two boys, she is currently editor of Chicago Parent, a monthly news magazine of parenting issues with a 250,000 readership in the six-country area. She also appears monthly on four local radio stations and the Chicago public television affiliate to discuss parenting issues.

For 14 years, Schultz worked at the Chicago Sun-Times covering politics, Hispanic affairs, health, television, women and children where her work earned her a number of awards, including a Pulitzer Prize nomination.

As a freelancer, she co-authored a book on the uninsured and wrote for papers such as the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times syndicate, the New York Times syndicate and the St. Paul Pioneer Press. She taught in the graduate and undergraduate programs at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Columbia College and Roosevelt University. Her radio commentaries have been heard on Minnesota Public Radio. She worked in federal government for a Clinton appointee and in violence prevention and public health for the city.

Schultz has served as president of JAWS, Journalism and Women Symposium, a national women's journalism network and was founding president of the Association for Women Journalists, Chicago chapter.
